Kirby Beard-signed Indos alarm clock | tan alligator case
This sleek, Jaeger clock has an especially intriguing dial, signed 'Kirby Beard & Co, Paris' and features distinctive slanted Art Deco numerals. It is of the rarer 'Indos' type of travel clocks, where the clock can be slid out from its case, so it can stand on a desk or bedside table. It also possesses an alarm function, to wake the weary or jet-lagged traveller.
This Jaeger 'Indos'-style clock is a remnant from another time, a reminder of the spirit and adventure of the earliest days of travel, and representing a way of life that has all but disappeared. These Indos clocks first appeared in the 1930s, and were offered in a huge variety of case leathers and leather types, in addition to the many different dial types that can be seen across examples.

The dial has a cream-beige tone, which remains remarkably crisp and clear despite its age. The lume-filled, Art Deco-style numerals 'explode' outwards into the dial, giving this piece an especially distinctive look. Towards the interior of the dial, we see a sub-dial, which includes the hours and allows the alarm setting to function. The matching lume-filled cathedral hands once helped to increase legibility in darkened conditions, and they developed a warm orange hue over time. The dial is signed 'Kirby Beard & Co., Paris', a British house founded in 1743 which specialised in luxury goods - their shop was once located on 5, Rue Auber in Paris.
The clock can be slid out like a drawer to reveal the face, as the red-brown, alligator-textured case also doubles up as a stand for the piece. An excellent companion to any bedside table, the clock can also be placed on a desk as an elegant touch, or brought along on a cruise or extended holiday to help recapture the romance of a lost time.
If sold within the United Kingdom, this Jaeger travel clock will be subject to 20% VAT.
