Extra Plat | 2167 | White Gold
A seldom seen reference, this 'Extra Plat' reference 2167* was created in the 1990s, and is powered by a manual winding DR 167. It has a very slim profile at just 1.74mm thick, and bears many of Daniel Roth's trademark design cues, with its ellipsocurvex style case, dark grey dial, and pinstripe guilloché.
Created in the early 1990s, this seldom-seen 'Extra Plat' reference 2167 is a time-only watch that bears many of Roth's signature design cues, such as the dark grey dial with pinstripe guilloche, and the Ellipsocurvex style case that Roth pioneered.
If you compare it with his past work at Breguet, you can see that some of his design choices were transferred, such as the straight lugs, sloped bezel and polishing throughout the white gold case. Whereas most of Daniel Roth's pieces were created in yellow gold, this one is distinguished by its white gold case. As a whole, the piece is incredibly pared-back, as its nickname suggests, it is a very slim example, thanks to the manual-winding DR 167 that powers it. At just 1.74mm thick, the profile of this reference 2167 is impressively thin, while the closed caseback features Daniel Roth's name in addition to the number of the watch, which is below 40.
Focusing on the dial, we see that it features Rothâs archetypal pinstripe guilloche, in addition to bearing Rothâs signature just under 12 oâclock and the number of the piece below 6 o'clock, in keeping with watchmaking tradition. A silvered chapter ring bears the hour markers, which are rendered as Roman numerals. When viewed as a whole, the dial layout and case provide the wearer with immense visual satisfaction, thanks to the symmetry and contrast between rounded and angular curves.
Assembled by hand in the brandâs VallĂ©e de Joux workshop, this Daniel Roth is powered by a finely-finished ultra-thin movement. By using this movement, Roth showcases the purest form of this delicate calibre, ensuring that it lives up to the term âExtra-Platâ, or, âultra-thinâ, which he uses to describe the movement. The finely-finished manual-winding movement, which is engraved with the same matching number as is found on the dial and caseback features 18 jewels and is adjusted to 5 positions. Aesthetically, the calibre is finished to a very high standard. The movement features chamfering, polishing and decoration, in the form of Geneva striping.
This watch is an ideal piece for any collector looking to add an early piece from a renowned independent watchmaker to their collection, or for someone looking for an elegant, restrained piece to wear on special occasions.Â
