Pebble | CRWGPB0003 | Yellow Gold
A refined, elegant take on a little-known classic, this 50th anniversary reissue of the Cartier Pebble* stays true to its roots, with a beautifully shaped case that takes its namesake to heart, in a vintage size and sleek design. With only 150 examples produced, this is an excellent example of a more obscure Cartier reference.
Following on the heels of the 2021 Tank Cintrée 100th Anniversary piece, this Cartier Pebble is a delightful modern interpretation of its 1970 counterpart, celebrating the 50th anniversary of this design. Only 150 examples of this piece were created, making it a rare and exciting find for any collectors of Cartier.
The Pebble's simple design is beautifully executed, and the 36mm case is a vintage size that is slightly larger than the original, but perfectly suited to today's modern world. The case itself highlights the rounded aspects of its name, mimicking the shape and size of a small pebble combined with a polish that gives it a lustre. Intriguingly, part of the design places a square within the circle, acting as an aperture for the dial. The square itself has rounded edges, and is angled so that it appears like a diamond. Meanwhile, the lugs are placed behind the case and angled downwards, to retain the intended shape. A traditional sapphire cabochon is set in the textured crown at 3 o'clock.
The dial features a creamy grained tone, with Roman numerals that mimic the shape and curves of the watch. A secret Cartier signature can be found nested within the "VII" indication. The Cartier signature is configured a modern print, compared to the older signatures, marking this as part of the modern era. This is paired with a diamond-shaped railroad track, in an intriguing twist on Cartier's typical style.
The movement that powers this watch is the Piaget cal. 430 MC, which was first introduced in the 1990s. A compact and sturdy movement, it is hidden away behind a closed caseback that bears the watch's number, and has a power reserve of just 38 hours.
